How the 2026 Subaru Uncharted Is Prepared for Your Next Camping Adventure

Ontario campsites do not always come with paved parking. Gravel lots, rutted access roads, and tight lanes between sites are part of the trip. The 2026 Subaru Uncharted, Subaru’s first all-electric sub-compact SUV, is built with that reality in mind.

Why Ground Clearance and Cargo Space Matter for Camping

A camping trip puts real demands on an SUV before you even reach the site. Gravel access roads, uneven lots, and gear that does not fit neatly into a hatchback all test a vehicle’s practicality. The Uncharted’s 208 mm of ground clearance keeps the underbody clear of rutted roads and washboard gravel that a lower crossover would scrape through.

Approach, departure, and breakover angles matter just as much on rougher lots. The Uncharted’s 16.9-degree approach angle, 27-degree departure angle, and 18.7-degree breakover angle mean it can handle dips, mild inclines, and uneven campsite entrances without dragging its bumpers or undercarriage.

Tight campground lanes are another story entirely. With an 11-metre turning circle, the Uncharted can pivot through narrow loops and back into a site without a three-point turn, something that matters more than horsepower once you’re navigating between picnic tables and parked trailers.

Cargo, Seating, and Charging Features Built for Weekend Trips

The Uncharted is a two-row SUV with seating for five, sized to be manoeuvrable at a trailhead lot without sacrificing space for gear. Behind the rear seats there’s 651 L of cargo room, enough for a cooler, folding chairs, and duffel bags without touching the back seat.

Fold the 60/40-split rear seatbacks flat and that space grows to 1,685 L, room for a tent, sleeping pads, and bulkier gear that would not fit with the seats up. That flexibility matters on a trip where the gear list grows the night before departure.

The Uncharted comes in FWD, FWD LR, Sport, and GT trims, and the differences are about priorities, not just price. The FWD trim delivers 165 hp and an electric range of 399 km, aimed at campers who want a straightforward EV for highway-heavy weekend runs. The FWD LR swaps in the larger 77 kWh battery for an electric range of 480 km, useful for longer drives to campgrounds further from home without stopping mid-route.

Sport and GT trims move to Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, with 338 hp and an electric range of 438 km. That’s the tradeoff: the FWD LR maximizes range for highway touring, while the AWD trims trade some range for traction on gravel, dirt, and wet or snow-covered access roads. For relaxed highway trips to a serviced campground, the range-focused FWD LR makes sense.

For sites reached by rougher, unpaved roads or in variable weather, the AWD Sport and GT are the better-suited choice.

Charging fits naturally into a camping routine. The Uncharted’s 11 kW onboard charger handles overnight home charging, so the battery is topped up before an early departure. On the road, its NACS charging port supports DC fast charging up to 150 kW, which brings a 10-80% charge in about 30 minutes at a compatible station, useful on longer weekend routes where a fast top-up beats a long stop.

Battery pre-conditioning helps on cooler mornings or on the drive home, keeping charging speed consistent even when the battery starts out cold.

Inside, dual-zone automatic climate control with a heat pump system and rear centre-console vents keeps front and rear passengers comfortable across a range of outdoor temperatures. Front seats are heated with three settings, and Sport and GT trims add heated rear outboard seats. Cloth seating surfaces on the FWD and FWD LR trims are easy to wipe down after a day of muddy boots and wet jackets.

The 14-inch touchscreen runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so route planning to a campsite doesn’t depend on a cable. Dual wireless smartphone chargers up front and USB-C ports in the rear keep devices powered on longer drives. Remote Connect features let you find charging stations and manage charge limits before you even get in the vehicle, which helps with planning the last leg of a longer trip.

Who the Uncharted Suits Best

The Uncharted is not a dedicated off-roader, and it doesn’t try to be. Its value for camping comes from the combination of usable cargo space, real ground clearance, manageable turning radius, and a charging setup that supports trip planning rather than complicating it.

Campers who want a simple, comfortable EV that handles gravel lots and weekend gear without needing a specialized off-road vehicle will find the Uncharted fits. Those covering longer distances to reach a site will lean toward the FWD LR’s range, while those facing rougher roads or unpredictable weather will prefer the traction of the Sport or GT.

Getting the Uncharted Ready for Your Next Trip

The 2026 Uncharted pairs everyday SUV comfort with the cargo space, ground clearance, and charging tools that make weekend camping trips easier to plan and execute. Its trim lineup lets Ontario drivers choose between maximum range and added traction depending on where they’re headed.
